Kalehua has been an educator for over 35 years. She has been involved with curriculum design throughout her teaching career. From 2018 until the present time, Kalehua was a student in multiple year-long programs that focused on place-based education and strategies to incorporate it into her curriculum. She has presented numerous workshops on specific ways that she has included place-based education in her ESL classroom and in her campus community. Kalehua attended the Kaha Aloha Conference in Las Vegas, and workshops at the Hawai'i Student Success Institute which focused on Hawaiian place-based education.
