Akali Fulmer is currently serving as the Director of International Recruitment and Partnerships for the University of West Alabama. She has more than 10 years of experience in International Education - developing global partnerships, community outreach, and most recently, education abroad. In addition to her current role, she is assisting Spalding University in developing its international program from the ground up.
She was recently awarded a Fulbright International Education Administrator scholarship to Japan. Building on her experience from this program, Akali leveraged her expertise and organized a high-profile visit to India, involving Alabama senators, representatives, the state superintendent, and state of Alabama university administrators to develop the program and strengthen ties between Indian institutions and Alabama’s educational ecosystem. She skillfully navigates diplomatic and cultural dynamics, facilitating impactful meetings with Indian educational leaders, policymakers, and institutions.
She has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History from India. She also has earned three Master’s Degrees: one in Theology, one in Divinity from Seoul Christian University in South Korea, and a Master's of Professional Studies in Higher Education Administration from the University of North Alabama. She is a member of the U.S. Youth Chamber of Commerce and worked for a short time as a Legislative Assistant for the U.S. Senate in Washington D.C. She is also the Chair for Study Alabama and Alabama State Representative to NAFSA, Region VII.
