Jerome M. Haynesworth II is a PhD student in the University of Maryland-Baltimore County’s Language, Literacy and Culture program. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Howard University in Spanish and Political Science; and his Master of Arts degree in Spanish from the University of New Orleans’s Romance Languages program.
In 2024, Jerome joined UMBC’s Center for Global Engagement as graduate assistant, where he works on the Global Partnerships & Outreach team. Previously, he worked as Program Manager of the Patricia Roberts Harris Fellowship for Public & International Affairs at Howard University. Prior to the pandemic, Jerome worked in corporate multi-unit mangagement for many years, then decided to pursue his goals in edcuation and culture studies. He has also taught high school and undergraduate Spanish courses, performed contract translation work for the U.S. Government, and he was a contributing translator for the Women Poets of Costa Rica 1980-2020 bilingual anthology.
His research interests include International Education, International Internships, Intercultural Competency, Cultural Identity, Sociolinguistics, Peacebuilding, and Public Diplomacy.
