Prof. Miguel Buñuel is PhD and BA in Economics from UAM, law degree from UAM, Master's degree in Economics from Boston University, and PhD in Energy and Environmental Studies from Boston University. He has been Vice-Dean of Planning and Quality, Vice-Dean of International and Institutional Relations and Vice-Dean of Internationalization of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of UAM. At UAM he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration and the Faculty of Science, and he is the director of many Summer Schools. He has taught at the Stanford University Program in Madrid, Complutense University of Madrid, UNED, Boston University and Harvard University, and has delivered many guest lectures at Spanish and foreign universities.
His research focuses on the areas of environmental economics and public economics, with numerous national and international publications in Spanish and English, as well as numerous participations in national and international scientific congresses. He has been principal investigator in projects funded by UAM, the Institute of Fiscal Studies, the Community of Madrid, and the Ramón Areces Foundation; and researcher in projects funded by the European Commission, the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs. He has been a Ramón Areces Foundation fellow at Boston University and a visiting researcher at Tufts University, the European Commission and Yale University. He has received the Economic and Social Council's Award for Doctoral Theses and the Institute of Fiscal Studies Award for Doctoral Theses on Public Economics.
Outside the university, he has served as Advisor to the Minister of Environment, Head of Studies and Publications of the Biodiversity Foundation, and has carried out research work for the European Commission, the World Bank, the Institute for Fiscal Studies, and several ministries. He has also carried out multiple consulting assignments.
