Institutional and Community Support for J-1 Scholars

International visiting scholars are a key population at many U.S. institutions, yet relatively limited research is available to inform model practices for institutional and community support. Panelists share insights from three different institutions for supporting international scholars and review a recent study on this topic.

Define best practices to support the academic, professional, cultural, and social experiences of J-1 scholars in the U.S., based on three example institutions.
Identify areas where institutions can improve scholar support based on a recent study and need assessment survey.
Implement strengthened scholar support at your institution.
