Location: SDCC, Room 32AB
We live in a world where academia, like the Border, rapidly changes. Thus, the shared project of human development across cultures requires new strategies for listening. The question is then, who will we listen to? How can access to art-based cultural heritage, and short-term immersive travel bring new voices forward?
Learning Objectives:
Analyze how short-term immersive travel, rooted in regenerative tourism and environmental justice, creates new pathways for educators to establish direct mentoring relationships between students, local artists and community leaders in underserved communities.
Understand how community-based art practices serve as a powerful model for cultural heritage preservation and leadership development. Implement flexible program design and public funding. Explore how connecting artists with community resources dramatically increases engagement, for Latinx youth within their communities and for students within those institutions that collaborate with community aligned partners.
Learn how the San Diego/Tijuana border truly works. Explore collaborative models with the potential to transform immigration challenges into opportunities for dynamic grassroots leadership innovation.
