Are You Okay? Impacts of Anti-DEI Legislation on International Education

This session analyzes recent laws targeting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI); their motivations; and their impacts on international higher education communities. Presenters discuss how schools and organizations are responding and how international educators can advocate for their students and colleagues while prioritizing self-care.

Learning Objectives:

  • Review recent history of anti-DEI legislation across the United States, and look at similar legislations and politics abroad.
  • Discuss the impacts of this legislation on university campuses and with various stakeholders and partners, specifically in the field of international higher education
  • Explore how university staff and faculty and external partners such as those in study abroad can respond and support each other and students
  • Provide and collectively develop a toolkit for advocacy and self-care
