The Impact of Geopolitical Factors on the International Student Experience

This session discusses the impact that geopolitical factors, can have on international students and their higher educational programs. Presenters focus on the academic, economic, legal, personal and social issues that international students face because of these factors, and how institutions can address such challenges and effectively support their students.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify and understand the academic, economic, personal, legal and social issues that prospective and current students face as a result of geopolitical factors, such as war conflicts.
  • Define the relevant stakeholders on campus who may assist and support students (international office, housing office, counseling/psychological services, Office of General Counsel, etc.).
  • Implement and recommend various policies, initiatives, and strategies at both the individual and institutional levels to assist and support international students in crisis.
  • To develop a stable action plan for future student crisis scenarios for higher education institutions.
