Realigning Goals Through Enrollment Caps to Find the Best Fit
Friday, May 30, 2025
9:30 AM – 10:20 AM PST
This session discusses how skyrocketing enrollment in a few education abroad programs forced Duke University to critically examine the disparity between student "group think" and institutional goals. Working closely with provider partners, Duke set enrollment limits to encourage students to consider other programming options and find programs that fit their goals and interests best.
Learning Objectives:
Compare how student participation post-pandemic has diverged from the classic goals of cultural immersion, academic enrichment, language acquisition, and personal growth.
Discuss how providers are valuable partners for institutions when realigning institutional enrollment goals.
Determine how institutions could create policies or campaigns (like enrollment caps) designed to meet student academic goals, the goals of study abroad, and institutional goals.
