Reimagining International Student Orientation: Leveraging Case Studies to Drive Engagement

This interactive session guides participants through the process of reimagining international student orientation by using case studies. It begins with a brief overview of traditional orientation challenges, highlighting the need for more engaging pedagogical approaches, and delves into the theory behind these approaches, using case studies as a teaching tool. Participants then engage in a hands-on activity where they will develop their own case studies in small groups.

This session was selected as the Region X Highlight.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn about the effectiveness of using case studies in teaching complex, real-world issues to international students, enhancing both engagement and comprehension.
  • Gain practical skills in designing and implementing case studies that are relevant, engaging, and reflective of the diverse experiences of international students.
  • Explore strategies to incorporate students' perspectives and experiences into case studies, ensuring that orientation is responsive to their needs and insights.
