Cross-Cultural Connections: Increasing Students’ Inclusion and Belonging with Intercultural Competency

Presenters describe the creation and results of a cross-cultural connections group of first-year students. Outcomes include increased international students inclusion, belonging, and wellbeing, and improved U.S. students intercultural competency. Attendees learn how the group bonded through programming, activities and a credit-bearing course on intercultural competency and communication.

Learning Objectives:

  • Discover curricular and extracurricular ways to boost US students’ intercultural competency and international students’ sense of inclusion, belonging, and wellbeing through cooperative learning.
  • Evaluate how the services and curriculum at your institution are coordinated to improve the wellbeing of international students and the intercultural competency of US students.
