Queer Without Fear: Harnessing Queer Joy in Education Abroad

This session outlines how education abroad professionals can allow for students to be their most authentic selves abroad and embrace queer joy. Panelists share personal narratives from students and colleagues, highlighting how their queer identities helped guide them through their study abroad experience and into the professional world.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define what authentic queer joy means in the context of study abroad, generation, community, language, and career development.
  • Reflect on advising strategies in regard to queer students, shifting from a deficit-based approach to asset-based, proactive advising strategies.
  • Learn what queer joy means and will have actionable ways to incorporate queer joy into both their student resources as well as be allies for members of the queer community in the workplace.
