Dr. Sora Friedman has worked in International Education since 1984, focusing on the preparation of new professionals in the field, IE management and leadership training, exchange program management, public diplomacy, and international policy advocacy. After 20 years working with youth exchange and public diplomacy programming, she joined the SIT Graduate Institute faculty in 2005, where in addition to teaching and advising master’s and doctoral students, she chairs SIT’s hybrid master’s degree in International Education. Sora is also a career and executive coach, specializing in working with women in international and higher education. Sora’s recent IE service includes a bi-monthly column, Practicing International Education, with GlobalEd; training and writing on women’s leadership in international education; and co-authoring Careers in International Education: A Guide for New Professionals. In 2024, Sora received NAFSA’s International Education Award for Leadership and Collaboration. She also is a recipient of NAFSA Region XI’s James Leck Award for Distinguished Service. Previously, she served on NAFSA's chair-streams of the Teaching, Learning, and Scholarship Knowledge Community; Region XI; Trainer Corps; and the Training Coordination Subcommittee.
