Karla McCollum, Director of Development for International Engagement for the Iowa State University Foundation, has over 18 years of international work experience. Karla has had a varied career which encompasses international student recruitment and student services, governmental and citizen diplomacy efforts for the State of Iowa, and alumni engagement and fundraising. Karla’s roles have taken her to Asia, Oceania, South America, the Caribbean, the Middle East, and Europe. Karla is now enjoying working in the field of advancement and helping international alumni give back to Iowa State University. Karla has held the Region IV positions of Community College Rep, Expo Hall Coordinator, Iowa State Rep, and now the Chair Elect for NAFSA Region IV. Karla has recently been part of a team which implemented one of NAFSA’s newest Member Interest Groups (MIG), the International Alumni and Advancement MIG. Karla has presented at several state conferences, NAFSA Region IV conferences, and at the NAFSA Annual Conference where her presentation was given mention for Best of Conference for Community College presentations. Karla recently received the Most Innovation International Initiative Award at the 2023 NAFSA Region IV Conference. Karla has earned a BA in Business Administration and a MBA with a Leadership emphasis.
