Kim Lovaas in the Director of International Student Services at the University of Washington and been with the UW for 25 years. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in East Asian Studies from Western Washington University and a Master’s degree from Lesley University in Intercultural Relations, focused on International Student Advising. Kim has over 30 years of experience in international education, including teaching English and overseeing an English teaching staff in Tokyo Japan, working as an Admissions Counselor at Emmanuel College in Boston where she recruited in Asia and gained foreign credential evaluation experience. Kim moved back to the Pacific NW in 2000 where she started at the University of Washington undergraduate admissions, overseeing international enrollment and developing recruitment where the number of students doubled in 10 years. As the Director of ISS since 2009, UW is home to nearly 8,000 currently enrolled F-1 and J-1 students as well as an additional 2,500 F-1 students on OPT and STEM OPT. Kim is passionate about supporting international students during their transition to university life, from admission through graduation, ensuring their success at the university. Kim has also contributed to the Council of International Schools, focusing on initiatives that enhance international student transitions.
