Dr. Matikeeva-Kinney brings over 25 years of experience in higher education across three continents: North America, Europe, and Asia. Originally from Kyrgyzstan, she earned her PhD in 2005, focusing her dissertation on "The Role of NGOs in the Establishment of Civil Society in Kyrgyzstan." Her background as a former professor of Political Science, exchange scholar, and international student provides her with a unique perspective in her field.
In the past decade, she has held various positions in international recruitment, admissions, retention, and compliance, including roles as a Recruiter, Advisor, Director, and PDSO. Currently, Dr. Matikeeva-Kinney serves as the Assistant Director of International Student Services and Recruitment at the Center for Global Engagement at the University of North Georgia in Dahlonega, GA. In 2024, Dr. Matikeeva-Kinney earned her EdD from Columbus State University in Columbus, GA. Her research explores the social engagement gaps between F-1 Visa international STEM students and their American peers, with a specific focus on how international students perceive mattering and marginality in U.S. universities. Throughout her career, she has mentored thousands of international students at various U.S. colleges and was the founding advisor for the inaugural student organizations for both international and domestic students.
