Shinnosuke Obi is the Dean of the International Center, Keio University, Japan. Prior to his current appointment he has served as the Chairman of the Committee for International Affairs at the Faculty and Graduate School of Science and Technology for more than a decade where he has been deeply involved in developing various international programs such as the double-degree programs offered to the students of Keio University and its partner institutions in the world. Currently he is also appointed to the Director of the Center for Japanese Studies.
He has served as a member of various committees at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan, or MEXT, related to scholarship programs for international students, joint- and double-degree programs at Japanese higher education, and human resource development.
He has a BSc and MSc (mechanical engineering) from Keio University, and a Dr.-Ing. from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in Germany. Concurrent with his position in the International Center, he is a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Science and Technology. He is Fellow of the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers, a member of Japan Society of Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer Society of Japan, Gas Turbine Society of Japan, and the Japan Society of Civil Engineers.
Professor Obi’s research focuses on fluid mechanics, turbulence modeling, computational mechanics, heat transfer, and flow measurement technique. He has published numerous articles and reviews in academic journals, edited books and refereed proceedings in Japanese and English, and has delivered over 200 presentations at Japanese conferences and meetings.
