Iyonka Strawn-Valcy brings 25 years of experience in educational leadership, administration, and international programs and operations within various educationional arenas. Her dedication and contributions have been recognized with several prestigious awards, including Outstanding Administrator of the Year at Kennesaw State University (2018) and a co-recipient of the Innovation Award in Internationalization from the Association for International Education Administrators (AIEA) (2017). As the Associate Vice Provost for International Operations at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Strawn-Valcy provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the Institute's global initiatives within the Office of the Vice Provost for International Initiatives. She also serves as the Director of Georgia Tech-Europe’s Atlanta office, where she leads efforts supporting the Institute's instructional site in France.
Strawn-Valcy holds a doctorate in the University of North Georgia's Higher Education Leadership and Practice Ed.D. program, where she was recognized as the 2023-2024 Student of the Year and inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. She holds a master’s degree in psychology, a Certificate in Student Affairs Law and Policy from the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA), and a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and Latin American and Caribbean Studies from Agnes Scott College. Strawn-Valcy was named a Louise McBee Scholar (2024) by the Georgia Association for Women in Higher Education and recognized as an Emerging Scholar in the Comparative and International Education Society’s (CIES) New Scholars program. She is an alumna of the 5th Leading Women@Tech cohort at Georgia Tech (2020). Strawn-Valcy has shared her expertise at numerous national and international conferences, including the Association of International Education Administrators (AIEA), Comparative and International Education Society (CIES), the International Education Association of South Africa (IEASA), and the National Association of International Educators (NAFSA).
