David Leopold is a Partner with UB Greensfelder LLP and serves Group Leader of the firm’s Immigration Law Practice Group. His diverse immigration, visa, and citizenship practice focuses on employment- and family-based immigration, with a particular emphasis on the representation of major health care systems, hospitals, physicians, researchers and other health care workers as well as domestic and foreign businesses, law firms, religious institutions, nonprofits, and other entities. A seasoned litigator, David represents employers in Form I-9 compliance matters, complex removal cases, including administrative trials and appeals, and federal court litigation. He is past president and past general counsel of the Washington, D.C.-based American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), the premier bar association of immigration lawyers and professors in the U.S. and internationally. David served as the AILA liaison to the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) key immigration enforcement bureau and is a former member of AILA’s Administrative Litigation Task Force. From 2018-2020, he served as counsel to “DHS Watch,” an initiative by America’s Voice that sought to uphold transparency, accountability, and adherence to long-held American values on immigration. Previously, David also served on the board of directors for the American Immigration Council where he was a faculty member and co-founder of the AIC Litigation Institute. He has more than 30 years of experience counseling on issues related to U.S. immigration, visa, and citizenship law. David regularly handles high-profile, politically charged matters that draw national attention and has earned a reputation as a “go-to” analyst of cutting-edge immigration issues for media outlets, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, USA Today, Newsweek, CNN, MSNBC, and more.
