Assistant Director, International Health, Safety and Security

Tonya Veltrop is the assistant director of international health, safety and security for the University of Missouri. Her more than twenty years in international education have included many rewarding experiences in admissions and recruiting, advising, enrollment management, international student services, and education abroad. She is a frequent conference presenter and currently serves on the NAFSA Education Abroad Health and Safety subcommittee and is an active member of the Forum on Education Abroad, the Overseas Security Advisory Council's Academic Section Committee, Pulse: Higher Education International Health and Safety Professionals, and the Global Leadership League.
She was awarded a 2024 Fulbright International Education Administrators award to Japan and is currently using her observations and findings from her Fulbright special project to enhance the pre-departure orientation for study abroad students to include meaningful ways to foster positive group dynamics, create a greater sense of belonging amongst student cohorts, and support their mental health and well-being abroad.
