Katie began working in the field of education abroad in 2017 and during her tenure, has served in various positions including her current one as the Director of Study Abroad at James Madison University. In this role, she’s been able to help shape the university’s international education goals, including leading the unit through the pandemic and rebuilding a thriving education abroad program. She’s specifically interested in exploring the intersections of career and education abroad, increasing access for first-generation and Pell-eligible students through scholarships and innovative programming, and assessing global learning outcomes. She’s led study abroad programs in eight different countries and has the pleasure of teaching in an adjunct capacity within the Department of Justice Studies at JMU on occasion.
Prior to working at CGE, Katie worked at the Office for Student Accountability and Restorative Practices at JMU, the International Journal of Transitional Justice, the Center for International Stabilization and Recovery, and served as the Director of the Harrisonburg International Festival. She received her Masters at the University of Cape Town in Cape Town, South Africa in International Justice and Transformation and received her undergraduate degree from JMU in Political Science and Justice Studies.
