Distinguished Associate Director of Advising

Susan Lochner Atkinson is a distinguished associate director for advising at International Academic Programs (IAP) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She oversees student services, diversity and inclusion, individual student health and safety, and curriculum integration. Previously Lochner Atkinson served as a study abroad coordinator at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and as a study abroad assistant at the University of Minnesota. Lochner Atkinson is a frequent presenter for regional and national sessions and workshops pertaining to various education abroad topics. She has presented multiple times on advising skills, diversity and inclusion, presenting to adult learners, and health, safety, and risk management in study abroad. She received her BA in Spanish from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and her MA in comparative international development education from the University of Minnesota. She has held numerous leadership roles within NAFSA including Education Abroad Knowledge Community Chair and Trainer Corps Chair.
