Keiko Ikeda is a Professor in the Division of International Affairs and the KU-COIL Coordinator at Kansai University. She also serves as Vice-Director of the Institute for Innovative Global Education (IIGE) at Kansai University. Keiko holds a Ph.D. from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa, with a specialization in Japanese linguistics, foreign language education, and conversation analysis. Her research interests focus on internationalization at home and the development of active learning programs in collaboration with universities overseas. From FY2018 to FY2022, Keiko led the COILPlus program, aimed at cultivating a global career mindset and enhancing universities' global development capabilities. In FY2022-FY2023, she contributed to the "J-MIRAI: Initiative to Promote Study Abroad by Young People Who Create the Future" as a member of the Second Council for Creating the Future of Education under the Cabinet Office of the Government of Japan. Starting in FY2023, Keiko is overseeing a new MEXT grant project, "JIGE (Japan hub for Global Innovative Education) - Developing 'Society 5.0 Human Resources' through Blended Mobility and Creating the Infrastructure to Support Them.
Experience: Dr. Ikeda brings extensive expertise in COIL practices in the Asia Pacific. She has applied various assessment methods in her institution (Institute for Innovative Global Education). Dr. Ikeda has conducted COIL training seminars, workshops, and presentations on virtual internationalization at prominent conferences such as AIEA 2028, NAFSA 2019 and 2023, and APAIE 2018, 2022, and 2023. Her institute, IIGE, is widely recognized as a leading COIL hub in the Asia-Pacific region, particularly noted for its strong connections with Southeast Asian higher education institutions. She has collaborated with organizations such as the American Council on Education (ACE), the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U), DAAD, and the University Mobility in Asia and the Pacific (UMAP) to offer capacity-building sessions for COIL practitioners.
