Vivian Shannon-Ramsey is an Assistant Professor of Social Work at Bowie State University. She has been a Gilman advisor for over 10 years. In her current work as Coordinator of the Global Learning Program and Assistant Professor at Bowie State University, Vivian Serves as a Study Abroad Advisor Committee member to advocate for efficient administrative practices and support student and faculty scholarship opportunities. She holds expertise in helping first-generation, low-income, and individuals with disabilities apply to study abroad. She has also partnered with international social work programs for virtual conferences and exchanges in Ghana (University of Ghana) and South Africa (Witz University, University of KwaZulu-Natal Durban, and South African College of Applied Psychology, Johannesburg). In addition, she has taken social work students abroad to over seven countries to learn critical languages and improve their cultural competency skills in countries such as Cuba, Morocco, Germany, Portugal, and Japan.
