Inclusive Strategies for Increasing the Community Impact of Global Experiences

This session presents research that indicates that students from marginalized backgrounds have a strong desire to engage in international education. Participants learn how first- and second- generation immigrant students can contribute their unique experiences and perspectives to a virtual community-based collaboration with members of a marginalized community in Central America.

Learning Objectives:

  • Analyze research about inclusive internationalization and gain perspectives from the results.
  • Develop a community-based program that engages the unique experiences and perspectives of first/second gen immigrant students during the semester at a community college.
  • Develop a virtual collaboration for underrepresented students between community college TRIO and Education Abroad Programs and a non-profit NGO.
