Dr. Julie Juan Yu, Assistant Provost for China Initiatives at Saint Joseph’s University, leads the Office of China Programs and the Chinese Language and Culture Program. With over a decade of leadership in higher education, she spearheads strategic initiatives and oversees China partnerships, collaborating closely with the university’s senior leadership to drive international engagement through strategic planning and policy development. She has been at St. Joseph’s University since 2010.
A seasoned expert in global strategy development and partnership cultivation, Dr. Yu has advocated and created programming to expand U.S.-China educational exchanges. She led the creation of innovative programs that foster student and faculty exchanges, including Ministry of Education (MOE)-accredited collaborations with Chinese universities and the China Scholarship Council.
In addition to her leadership in academic programs, Dr. Yu has led high-visibility media campaigns to raise awareness of U.S.-China educational collaboration in both American and Chinese audiences. She earned her MA and PhD degrees from West Virginia University and her BA from Hunan Normal University. Her research includes the interplay of Chinese tradition and western music education, integration of music and language. She is fluent in both Chinese and English.
