Professor/ Faculty Director for Internationalization
California State University-Los Angeles
Dr. Tasha Willis is a social work educator with roots in educational equity, international education and intercultural communication. She serves as the Faculty Director for Internationalization at Cal State Los Angeles, where she is also a Professor of Social Work and the MSW Program Director. She strives to cultivate international and global opportunities on and off campus for students, the majority of whom are first generation college students and/or underserved students in higher education and education abroad. Thus far, she has herself led courses to Thailand, Costa Rica and Colombia and supported programs in Ghana, Guatemala, and Venezuela and now supports other faculty in efforts towards comprehensive internationalization, in addition to developing courses for the first time. Her scholarship centers on underserved students and social justice in both education abroad contexts and in the context of an Hispanic Serving Institution. Her advocacy to bring access to high quality international learning opportunities to the School of Social Work led her and other colleagues to found Social Work Abroad Program (SWAP), a non-profit organization dedicated to providing enriched, supported, intercultural internships for US social work students who transform both personally and professionally.
