Head of Section at the Centre for International Academic Collaborations (KIWi)

Sakine Weikert is the head of section at the Centre for International Academic Cooperation (KIWi) at the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). KIWi provides individual advice to German universities on navigating the complexities of international science cooperation, especially during periods of heightened geopolitical tensions. Its focus areas include science diplomacy, research security, legal frameworks, research-innovation-transfer, matchmaking & international networks. KIWi has specific expertise on Ukraine and leverages DAAD’s extensive global network.
Sakine Weikert also oversees a joint project (DAAD-MPG) named "WiWiKo-China," which aims to build/extend expertise on China in Germany. Previously, she served as head of the DAAD Information Centre in Shanghai and was a DAAD lecturer at Fudan University Shanghai from 2018 to 2022. She holds a scholarly background in Comparative Literature and Media Studies from Free University Berlin and has been a visiting researcher at both the University of Chicago and Princeton University.
