A Lack of Diversity Spells Adversity: Attracting Diverse International Students

This multisector panel addresses the imperative to diversify the international student population in the United States, and shares actionable strategies to accomplish this goal. Focusing on the Global South, expert panelists explore growth markets, push and pull factors for minority students, and what “diversity” of international students means in the United States

Learning Objectives:

  • Develop a deeper understanding of the existing gaps in the American international student population based on students’ regions of origin and current patterns in student demand across the world, particularly from the Global South.
  • Learn about the different ways in which the international student population can be diversified and consider what "diversity" means in the context of international students in the U.S., especially given the current DEI programming landscape in the U.S.
  • Consider varying national- and campus-level approaches to diversifying the international student population, as well as the impact of current state-level policies that restrict DEI efforts at public institutions.
