IDEAS for Internationalizing the Curriculum: Faculty-led and Cultural Heritage Models

Embedding education abroad opportunities into curricula looks different depending on an institution’s goals and resources. Attendees hear from two diverse U.S. Department of State Increase and Diversify Education Abroad for U.S. Students (IDEAS) grant recipients who have approached this topic in unique ways relevant for their campuses. Speakers share their approaches to increasing education abroad opportunities and building capacity at their institutions through two different models: faculty-led and short-term exchange.

This session was selected as the Region IV Highlight.

Learning Objectives:

  • Explore a model of embedding short-term education abroad programs into curriculum to increase education abroad opportunities through Grinnell College’s faculty-led site-based learning workshop in Mexico.
  • Consider how cultural heritage programs increase participation with students from underrepresented communities through the example of St. Cloud State University’s Indigenous Knowledge and Cultural Exchange program in Australia
